A Babani Kimono Dress (Attributed To) Circa 1920

Circa 1915/1920

Astonishing dress attributed to the designer houseBabani in gold lamé silk crepe definitely in line with the Sac dress and Orientalist dream inspired by the Ballets Russes and the designer houses Mariano Fortuny and Gallenga between 1910 and 1920. Delightfully lamé orange-colored curry silk crepe and brocaded with gold threads representing Indian palmettes of different sizes. Sac cut in the shape of the Kimono, very fluid and wide. Dress with 3/4 sleeves, the waist is tightened by a braided gold belt sewn on the back and adorned with a glass bead Murano. Wide low-cut neckline in the back but the dress can be worn in the other direction in a more contemporary way. Braid in gold trimmings at the collar, sleeves and at the bottom of the dress. Orange satin lining. No label but typical of the work of the designer house Babani which was installed at 98 Bis Bd Haussmann in Paris. The belt is damaged otherwise good condition of color and conservation.
