Prototype by Christian Dior, a Handbag in gold-stamped suede - Paris Circa 1950
Circa 1950
France
Elegant prototype evening handbag by Christian Dior (Attributed to) dating from the 1950s. Rigid bag in black suede printed and stamped in gold with small scale motifs reminiscent of snakeskin. Superb design with rigid oval handles, hinged closure in shiny gold-plated brass and button clasp covered in the same skin. The interior is lined with glossy black leather. There is no Christian Dior label or logo as this is a prototype that was never marketed. This bag was purchased in Paris from Madame Autran, a famous fashion antique dealer in the 1970s, who attested to its provenance. No flaws apart from a very, very slight period patina, including faint micro-scratches to the corners and leather piping, which are very minimal. Beautiful gold colour and good condition.
Dimensions: width 21 cm, height 17 cm, length of handle 42 cm.
