A Gabrielle Chanel Haute Couture Evening Sailor Shirt Numbered 42506 Circa 1954/1960
Stunning evening sailor or pinafore dress by Gabrielle Chanel Haute Couture which probably dates from the first years of the reopening of the famous Maison after 1954. Classicism in appearance but daring details that announce the renewal and genius of this great lady of fashion . First of all, a double material, anthracite grey velvet for the bustier and a navy silk crepe for the long skirt with box pleats in front, playing with an unusual two-color scheme. Large sailor collar in white satin and pointed neckline, surprisingly plunging with a zipper in the front.
Reminder of the white satin with punctured cuffs adorned with three buttons with chiseled brass balls and pearly pearls (closed with press studs). Finally, a deceptively monastic atmosphere playing with codes initiated by Cristobal Balenciaga during the same period, in a wink to the Master. Black taffeta lining and Chanel woven cotton bolduc side brand numbered 42506. Small scratches inside the white satin collar, otherwise good general condition of color and conservation.
Measurement: French equivalent size 38/40. Back height 150 cm, shoulders 40 cm, waist 81 cm, chest 96 cm, hips 99 cm, sleeves 60 cm.
