Jean Patou/Karl Lagerfeld Couture Electric Blue Satin Evening Dress Circa 1959/1962
Beautiful evening dress in electric blue satin from the Jean Patou House directed by Karl Lagerfeld between 1959 and 1962. Long dress in sheath hugging the hips, treated assymetrically in the back with matching buttoning, and a bow. Bonet bodice lined with cream tulle. Skirt lined with rigid tulle and a under dress in cream taffeta. Pair of matching moccasins bearing the Maison Mancini label : 20 rue du Boccador Paris (light fouling of the soles). Woven red on cream label sewn in the bustier background, indicating Jean Patou Paris. No notable defect and clean. Very good condition of color and preservation.
Measurement : Dress: Equivalent French size 38. Height 148 cm from the shoulders, 133 cm from the chest. Chest 92 cm, size 72 cm, hips 102 cm. Shoes: noted in manuscript 6 1/2, length 25 cm, upper 7 cm, heel height 2 cm.
Jean Patou died prematurely in 1936 and Raymond Barbas became president of the Jean Patou house. Karl Lagerfeld won Secrétariat international de la laine in Paris in 1954 alongside with Yves Mathieu Saint-Laurent. The he became Pierre Balmain’s assistant. In 1959, Karl Lagerfeld succeeded Marc Bohan as head of the Maison Jean Patou, of which he remained the artistic director until 1962. He then left for Chloé, then took charge of the Chanel House in 1983.
