An Art Deco Chiffon dress embroidered with glass beads - France Circa 1920

Circa 1920-1925

France

Elegant evening gown in buff-colored silk crepe muslin embroidered with pearls, dating from the early Art Deco period in France. Loose, straight sack cut, boat neckline and kimono sleeves, entirely embroidered with pink and white tubular glass beads and translucent glass beads. Languid floral design with geometric cartouches, highlighting the collar, sleeves, and bottom of the dress. The underdress with thin straps is made of nylon taffeta, zips up on one side, and is a later period. Its rusty orange color creates a subtle transparency effect under the buff-colored muslin. This transparency enhances the pastel colors of the bead embroidery. A matching belt, embroidered in the same style, allows the dress to be gathered at the waist. Note that a few rows of beads are missing, which is only noticeable upon close inspection, the only flaw to report. The muslin background is stable, with no stains or holes. Good overall condition in terms of color and preservation. Dress to wear or collect.

Dimensions: Equivalent to US size 10-12. Length 47 inches, shoulders 15 inches, sleeves 15 inches, bust 33 inches, hips 35 inches, waist 27 inches.
