An evening burnous in silver lamé by Madeleine & Madeleine - Paris Circa 1920

Circa 1915/1925

France

Long coat or burnous for evening wear from the Parisian fashion house Madeleine & Madeleine, made from shaped silver lamé dating from the Art Deco period. Orientalist cut with kimono sleeves in the style of Paul Poiret, with draping at the back and front. Very long scarf pleated from the left shoulder, creating a bouffant drape over the bust. At its end, long fringes tied with brown silk laces and silver metal thread cords. The fabric is a precious lampas with black artificial silk and entirely lamé with silver threads in a large stylised flower pattern, typical of Art Deco. Entirely padded and lined with cream and silver Duchesse satin. The label mentions Madeleine & Madeleine, Champs Elysées Paris (stains on the label), which was a very renowned fashion house during this period. Note slight stains on the lining at the collar and shoulders, the only flaw to report. No holes or stains. Very Good colour and condition. To wear or collect.

Dimensions: Equivalent to French size 40-44. Height 133 cm. Sleeve to sleeve 88 cm, collar to sleeve 60 cm. Total circumference 172 cm. Scarf: width 42 cm, length 161 cm, fringe length 48 cm.
