Beaded and embroidered ball gown - France Circa 1920

Circa 1920

France

Black silk chiffon ball gown entirely embroidered with translucent glass beads and Cornély embroidery, dating from the french Années Folles. With an embroidered and vermiculated background giving a sandblasted effect, this flowing, straight-cut dress, known as a sack back dress, has a low waist on the hips, is sleeveless and has a square neckline. Black side slits on the sides of the skirt, one of which is split. The design is typically Art Deco and similar to Madeleine Vionnet's creations from the same period. The design is inspired by ethnic fashion and Egyptomania, which were in vogue during the 1920s. The original underdress is made of black crepe satin and the label is missing. The Cornely embroidery uses orange, red, grey and black silk threads as well as gold thread. No holes or stains, the chiffon base is in very good condition. Overall colour and condition are good. A dress to wear or collect!

Dimensions: Equivalent to French size 38-40. Length 118 cm, shoulders 39 cm, bust 95 cm, waist 93 cm, hips 105 cm.
