A rare Hermès scarf ‘A la Gloire de la Légion étrangère’ by Hugo Grygkar - Paris Circa 1951

Circa 1951

France

Rare Hermès silk square only for the collection entitled ‘A la Gloire de la Légion étrangère’ by Hugo Grygkar and dating from the unique 1951 edition. Printed silk square with hand-rolled edges in shades of cream, scarlet red, yellow green, yellow and khaki bronze. The motifs illustrate the history of the Foreign Legion. In the centre is a large wheel with flags and military costumes, encircled by the mottos loyalty, honour, discipline and valour. In each corner are epaulettes, one of which reads Hermès Paris. Its condition is poor and is for collectors only. Note the rolled edges are damaged, a small hole on one edge and very slight and not very visible tiny marks (see last photos). Not wearable, only for framing or collecting. However, it is easy to handle and is in stable condition.

Size: 85 cm x 83 cm approx.

Listed as Very Rare and Sought-after in Geneviève Fontan's book carré d'art d'Hermès at ARFON 2017 on page 20.
