Very Rare Hermès Scarf named "Saumur" by Jacques Nam - Paris Circa 1938
Circa 1938
France
Very rare Hermès silk square scarf entitled "Saumur" by Jacques Nam, dating from the unique 1938 edition. Printed in silk twill with hand-rolled edges. Named after the town where the famous French cavalry school is located, this square illustrates the basics of horsemanship through a series of captioned drawings. The drawings stand out against a bright blue background with pink borders. A "Made in France" label in the lower right-hand corner of the square on the reverse seems to indicate that this scarf was intended for export. A slight period patina, as this scarf must have been washed. No holes or major flaws. Good overall condition in terms of colour and conservation.
Size: 84 cm x 84 cm
Listed as Very Rare and Very Wanted in Geneviève Fontan's book carré d'art d'Hermès at ARFON 2017 on page 206.
