An unlabeled cocktail dress in "Velours au sabre", dating from the 1950s. Black satin base printed with multicoloured paint ‘splashes’, some of which have a velvety texture, created using the sophisticated Lyon technique known as ‘Velours au Sabre’. Sleeveless dress with a kimono-style cut and a large integrated square shawl collar at the chest, known as a ‘modesty’ collar. Front opening with a zip fastening and a black satin waistband edged with piping. The skirt is full, gathered at the waist and featuring wide box pleats at the front. The skirt is lined in buff taffeta and reinforced with double layers of stiff black taffeta to create the fullness. No flaws; the dress has been worn very little or not at all, and the silk retains its original stiffness. Very Good condition in terms of colour and preservation.
