Patriotic evening gown in embroidered black silk crepe - France Circa 1918-1922
Circa 1918-1922
France
Patriotic evening gown in embroidered black silk crepe dating from the end of the First World War. Inspired by the graphic designs of the Ballets Russes and the creations of Jeanne Lanvin, this sleeveless Art Deco dress, with a round neckline and a loose, straight cut known as a sack dress, is slit on one side and highlighted by a cascade of tricolor silk fringe draping. Note the remarkable organza pleating at the hips. The hand embroidery is in tricolor floche silk, forming motifs inspired by Eastern European countries, which were very fashionable at the time. No underdress (which probably had a designer label) and no zipper. Note the hem at the bottom of the dress, which may have been shortened, and a few pulled threads and cords, the only flaws worth mentioning. Good overall condition in terms of color and preservation. Dress to wear or collect.
Dimensions: Equivalent to French size 38-42. Height 42 inches, shoulders 18 inches, bust 37-40 inches, waist 40 inches, hips 42 inches.
